KING BRITT (FIVESIX RECORDINGS)
Fantastic! Absolutely adore the covers of Evil Vibrations and The Star Of The Story. Great idea, great tributes!
RAINER TRĂśBY (TRĂśBY TRIO)
This exclusive sneak preview of the forthcoming Rewind series features LA based The Rebirth, Detroit’s Platinum Pied Pipers and UK remix kings Yam Who?
Between them they cover “Evil Vibrations originally by the Mighty Ryeders, The Burt Bacharach and Hal David classic “The Look of Love and disco fave “The Star of A Story originally by Heatwave respectively. All tracks are exclusive to Rewind, none will be featured on the artists upcoming albums.
The Rebirth, is a Los Angeles based septet with a sound built on an organic blend of new and traditional Soul, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Funk. Think Earth Wind & Fire, Ramp, Pleasure, Rotary Connection, Side Effect and Roy Ayers but don’t think that The Rebirth are simply a retro act. Pushing the limits of how a band can sound on wax The Rebirth regularly cross the line from live act to makers of funky electronic club music. Their cover of The Mighty Ryeders “Evil Vibrations sounds equally at home in the walkman or the dancefloor. The original track was sampled by De La Soul for the “Saturday (the Rollerskating song.)
Giving a futuristic hip hop twist to “The Look of Love are The Platinum Pied Pipers a two-man dynamic musical duo from Detroit. With a fresh-faced blend of modern hip hop and soul Waajeed and Saadiq aka PPP look to tempt the masses and quench the thirst of an underground scene looking for something original and twisted with their forthcoming Ubiquity album. The Platinum Pied Pipers are producers Waajeed and Saadiq and they have two singles set for release this Fall, with their album looking likely for February 2005.
Dropping their first ever new track (they’ve made their mark only by way of remixes so far) exclusively on Ubiquity are London based sophisticated beatsmiths Yam Who? They have lent their skillful sprinkle of magic studio dust to everyone from Only Child, Xantone Blacq, Sidewinder and Rainer Truby on this side of the Atlantic to Pharrell, Dwele, Amp Fiddler, N’Dambi, Raphael Saadiq, Alison Crockett and Lizz Fields on the other. Everyone from Anne Nightingale (BBC Radio 1 daytime) to Norman Jay plus hundreds of others have supported what they do and name check them as the production outfit to watch. Check their completely new cover (this is not a remix) of the Heatwave disco classic “The Star of A Story.
With close 50, 000 Rewind comps sold to date, we’re delighted that Rewind 4 is shaping up to be the best so far! Contributors include Sharon Jones and Lee Fields, Willis, Nostalgia 77, SA-RA Creative Partners, As One, Nicola Kramer and Domu, Shawn Lee, Orgone, and John Beltrans Detroit Latin Allstars. Covering everything from Cameo to the White Stripes, Joni Mitchell to Sly and the Family Stone, Fania Allstars to Woodie Guthrie.
