Carleen Anderson is soul music royalty. Her mother is Vickie Anderson, stepfather is Bobby Byrd, and her godfather was James Brown. Her parents performed with James, and both had hit songs. Bobby actually invited a young James Brown to join his band, The Famous Flames, and the rest is history. After a trip to Europe performing with her parents, she met British producers/DJs Femi “Fem” Williams & “Brother” Marco Nelson and formed The Young Disciples. The album Road To Freedom was released on Talkin’ Loud Records in 1991. After that success, she signed as a solo artist to Virgin Records and released True Spirit in 1994. The photographs are from her only New York show at Supper Club in November of 1994 and were taken by British photographer Adam Lawrence. Carleen and Giant Step worked together again when she sang on Kaidi Tatham aka Agent K’s Feed The Cat album released on Giant Step Records in 2002.
