Our longstanding relationship with Ian Schrager and his team (especially Ben Pundole) started in 2007 with Morgans Hotel Group. They wanted Giant Step to introduce a more unique style of music to their properties. This partnership included moving our Winter Music Conference parties to Delano in Miami, a New Years Eve event, and hotel openings.
When Ian, Ben and the team moved over to start the EDITION brand, they re-engaged Giant Step. The opening of the Times Square EDITION in New York was an ambitious 5 day series of opening events. With this being Schrager’s first venture in Midtown NY since Studio 54, and because both openings were on a Tuesday, we were inspired to bring in Studio 54 “royalty” to perform at the opening. Diana Ross and Nile Rodgers performed and were followed over the next few days by Lauryn Hill, Rev. Run, Q Tip, Questlove, Sofi Tukker, Charli XCX, Francis and The Lights and Seth Troxler - a perfect balance of vintage and new.
West Hollywood EDITION opened in the fall of the same year with a smaller club with Janelle Monae and Chaka Khan.
