Jose James
We were first introduced to Jose James through Gilles Peterson on one of his trips to NY in the mid ‘00s. Jose was doing a showcase in the back room of a club in Williamsburg. He was a kid from Minneapolis who’d created a unique style of melding rap with jazz scat. Jose was a frequent opener at Giant Step shows, for artists like Alice Russell & Soil and Pimp Sessions, and we had a regular party with him at Nublu. As his career progressed, we presented headlining shows for him at venues like Le Poisson Rouge, Hiro Ballroom, The Delano in Miami, and Central Park Summerstage. We’re honored to have been a part of seeing him grow and develop as an artist and continue to see him grow with the launch of his own record label, Rainbow Blonde.
